The White Dress Series began as an examination of women's role in society. The White dress is often associated with Christian values -purity, christening , the wedding gown etc but also with being set apart, on a pedestal, pampered. The white dress has frequently been associated with female rites of passage in traditional western society. The coming out parties popular in the American South reaffirm the value system surrounding the image of the white dress.
